Contrast

As I type this post I'm currently shivering under two layers of jumpers because it's not nearly as warm as it was when these photos were taken in the Dominican Republic! But how I wish it was and I was back in the sun with my toes in the sand. It's funny because when these photos were taken I remember thinking how hot and humid it was and how much I wished it wasn't quite that uncomfortable. It's quite the contrast from how I feel today!

The other contrast, for which this post is named after, is that of the top and shorts. I love mixing feminine and delicate pieces with more rugged elements of my outfit, like these distressed shorts. The juxtaposition of fabrics and texture brings an element of casualness and effortless whim I quite like in my outfits because if there's one thing I hate is being too done up.

Postcards from the Dominican Republic

In November C and I headed to the Dominican Republic for our friends' wedding. It was both of our first time in the south and we couldn't wait to get out of grey Dublin and see the sun. The heat, the sand, the sun and the ocean is just what the doctor had ordered and it was amazing. We spent our days on the beach or by the pool. We tried the activities provided by our resort like sea kayaking and walked along the shore. It was so nice to get away, pause life and hit refresh as we relaxed reading books and magazines.

My favourite DIY Lip Scrub

If you're anything like me, winter means dry skin and my lips are no exceptions. Recently with the increased talk of banning microbeads in scrubs and beauty products, I realised I could be making my own lip scrub that would help the environment and my wallet. So I set about trying a few recipes and settled on my favourite below. It's very simple and can be made with ingredients most likely already in the house and can be adapted to your preferences. I like mine slightly softer so I can use it more often, but if you like your scrub rougher, just add less honey or more sugar.

What you'll need

2 tablespoons of brown sugar
1 tablespoon of honey
1 teaspoon of oil
5 - 10 drops of your preferred essential oil

Mix it all together to your preferred consistency and voila - it's that easy!
